Fun Facts: Who invented basketball??

In December of 1891, Dr. James Naismith saught a way for his young students to keep physically fit and have some fun during the winter. He invented basketball. He wrote the rules and regulations and even decided how tall the goal should be, ten feet tall. When he first invented the game, a peach basket was used for a hoop. Whenever a goal was made, the teams had to get a janitor to get the ball out of the hoop. They first played with soccer balls, until they switched to a brown ball. In the early 1950's, Tony Hinkle decided to make the balls orange, so that they would be more visible to the fans. James Naismith later went on to become the first head basketball coach at the University of Kansas.
